2001 - Atomic Energy of Canada, Qinshan Project

Display Design - Definition of three control room displays to support monitoring of overall production status, electrical distribution, and radiation monitoring status.

2001 - Ontario Power Generation - Darlington Generating Station

Business Case Preparation - Documented the operational and financial rationale to justify investment in Darlington control room annunciation improvement for management funding review.

2001 - Atomic Energy of Canada - Dedicated Isotope Facility

Operational Assessment - Development of assessment criteria and scenarios, and evaluation of participant performance for three operational exercises to demonstrate the adequacy of operational practices, system designs, and staffing models.

2001 - Canadian Light Source - University of Saskatchewan

Human Factors Program Definition and Design Support - Worked with project staff to identify needs and develop an appropriate human factors workscope; assisted with design guidance selection and application, and helped with preparation of design documents in support of the development and operation of a synchrotron light source research facility.

2000 - Ontario Power Generation - Conduct of Operations Team

Identification of Improvement Options and Priorities - Lead investigator in a study to characterize the impact of control room annunciation deficiencies at all nuclear stations, and to identify the economic rationale and technical options for improvement.

1998/2000 - New Brunswick Power, Point Lepreau Generation Station

Equipment Assessment and Operations Planning - Member of station Year 2000 Project team. Authored 19 project assessment and status reports, and prepared contingency plans for station assets identified as important to safety and production. Developed operational Work Plans for key Year 2000 transition dates, delivered familiarization training to shift crews and participated in work plan execution on key transition dates.

1999 - Bunker Air Renovation

Interface Assessment - Reviewed proposed modifications to aircraft checklists and panel instrumentation layouts.

1998/99 - ADTECHS Corporation

HF Program Definition and Operational Planning - Developed human factors engineering program for retrofit of a liquid waste processing facility at the Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL) Chalk River Nuclear Laboratories. Worked with ADTECHS and AECL staff to establish and document the operational model for the facility.

1998 - Ontario Power Generation, Darlington Generating Station

Operational Assessment - Conducted an assessment of the operational impacts of a proposed change in special safety system trip setpoint implementation.

Prior to establishing Crew Systems Solutions, Eric Davey was involved in the following projects while at AECL:

1997/98 - CANDU Owners Group - Control Room Improvements

Needs Characterization, Prototype Definition and Assessment - Worked extensively with Darlington Operations and Engineering staff to assess needs and develop information system improvements (e.g., control room displays, electronic logging, shift turnover aids).

1997/98 - CANDU Owners Group - Integrating Human Factors in Design

HF Guidance Development and Operational Assessment - Led definition and development of guidance documentation for integrating human factors design support activities within station engineering design processes. Completed operational assessment of Critical Safety Parameter monitoring for the Pickering control room as demonstration application of HF guidance and methods.

1997 - Ontario Hydro - Pickering B - Annunciation Assessment

Needs Characterization and Economic Assessment - Participated in a three person team to characterize issues with control room annunciation and recommend priorities for improvement.

1995/96 - CANDU Owners Group - Darlington and Point Lepreau Crew Trials

Operational Assessment - Led organization and conduct of simulator trials for operational assessment of annunciation improvements with station operators.

1996 - Ontario Hydro - Bruce A Nuclear Plant - Alarm Prioritization

Needs Characterization, Design, and Assessment - Developed and pilot tested an alarm prioritization strategy and procedure with station staff for retrofit application to control room annunciation.

1995 - AECL - CANDU 9 Control Centre Design

Design and Operational Planning - Participated on a team developing new control centre concepts. Co-authored definition of operational and functional basis documents for guiding control centre development, and future plant operational and training documentation.

1995 - Ontario Hydro - Darlington - Annunciation Upgrade Feasibility

Technical and Economic Assessment - Co-led technical and economic feasibility study of applying new annunciation concepts to improve control room annunciation.

1994 - New Brunswick Power - Point Lepreau - Control Room Console Re-layout

Needs Characterization and Design - Co-led assessment of operational issues with current control room console layout and developed a console layout to better support evolving operational needs.

1993/95 - CANDU Owners Group - Development of Annunciation Improvements

Needs Characterization, Concept Development and Assessment - Worked extensively with staff at Point Lepreau and Gentilly 2 to develop generic improvements to CANDU control room annunciation applicable to all stations.

1990 - Chalk River Operations - Ergonomics Assessment of Fueling Operations

Operational Assessment - Provided independent assessment of crew roles, fueling practices and crew station interfaces and provided recommendations for improvement.

1989 - AECL - Process for Integrating Human Factors in Control Centre Design

HF Guidance Development - Participated in team developing a process for integrating human factors in control centre design (i.e., Functional Design Methodology) based on IEC 964 standard.

1989 - Chalk River Operations - Fuel-Handling Part-task Trainer

Training Needs Characterization, Simulation Development and Assessment - Led definition and development of a part-task training simulator for refresher training of research reactor operations personnel in fuel-handling upset management.
